SERPPAS Awarded 2023 Climate Adaptation Leadership Award for Natural Resources

The Southeast Regional Partnership for Planning and Sustainability (SERPPAS) is a collaboration between state environmental and natural resource officials, the Department of Defense (DoD), and other federal agencies who work together to prevent encroachment around military lands and encourage compatible resource-use decisions. At the Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies Annual Meeting in Calgary, Alberta, SERPPAS was awarded the 2023 Climate Adaptation Leadership Award for Natural Resources. See the following announcement to the SERPPAS network from SERPPAS Project Manager Addie Thornton.

SERPPAS Network,

We are very excited to share that on September 25, 2023, SERPPAS received the 2023 Climate Adaptation Leadership Award for Natural Resources at the Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies Annual Meeting in Calgary, Alberta. SERPPAS was recognized in the Broad Partnerships category for exemplary leadership in reducing climate-related threats and promoting adaptation of the nation’s natural resources. To learn more about why SERPPAS was nominated, check out the nomination video here: https://serppas.org/strategic-plan-and-focus-areas/coastal-resilience-and-regional-adaptation/

The Climate Adaptation Leadership Award for Natural Resources was established in 2016 to bring to light many of the outstanding people leading projects or activities that are advancing the resilience of our nation’s valuable fish, wildlife, and plant resources in a changing climate. These awards acknowledge the leadership of those individuals, organizations, businesses, and agencies that are making it happen and promote their work as examples of successful climate adaptation. The Award is sponsored and guided by the Steering Committee of the Climate Adaptation Leadership Awards and is made up of representatives from the Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies, the National Fish, Wildlife, and Plant Climate Adaptation Network, and partners including the Native American Fish and Wildlife Society, and Federal agencies (USFWS, USGS, USFS, NOAA). SERPPAS is honored to have been recognized among the other amazing climate leaders across the country. This award affirms the collaborative mission of SERPPAS and will encourage the partners to innovate and push the boundaries of what is possible, continuing to be a leader in climate adaptation in the Southeast.

Respectfully,
