Science-based solutions for natural resource challenges
The Texas A&M Natural Resources Institute partners with agencies, organizations, land managers and communities to address complex natural resource challenges through applied research, geospatial analysis, planning, engagement and decision-support tools.
As a unit of Texas A&M AgriLife Research, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service and the Texas A&M College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, NRI connects partners to interdisciplinary expertise across the Texas A&M University System while maintaining a practical focus on conservation, land stewardship and real-world implementation.
How we can help
NRI works with partners who need science, planning or engagement support to better manage land, water, wildlife and working lands. Our team can help define project needs, develop applied research approaches, analyze data, communicate findings and build tools that support informed decision-making.
We regularly support work in areas such as:
Project management and environmental planning
Environmental monitoring and field surveys
Statistical analysis and ecological modeling
Geospatial, remote sensing and land-use analysis
Database design and web-based mapping tools
Stakeholder engagement, outreach and communications strategy
Who we work with
NRI partners with federal and state agencies, universities, research and extension centers, conservation organizations, military partners, landowner-serving groups and others working at the intersection of natural resources, land stewardship and applied science.
Our interdisciplinary approach helps partners bring together ecological expertise, spatial analysis, field-based research, communications and policy awareness to support projects that are scientifically sound, efficient and useful to decision-makers.
Ways to work with NRI
NRI can support projects through several funding and partnership pathways. Depending on the project scope, partner type and timeline, these mechanisms can help create cost savings, improve efficiency and connect partners with the appropriate technical expertise.
Available pathways may include:
Gulf Coast Cooperative Ecosystems Studies Unit
Department of War Sikes Act Cooperative Agreement
General Services Administration Schedule 899-1, Environmental Services
Independent cooperative agreements
Intergovernmental support agreements
Fee-based services for GIS, wildlife surveys, outreach and communications support
