Abigail Wetzel

Abigail joined the Texas A&M NRI team in December 2022 as a Senior Research Associate. Her primary role is to manage the natural resource and wildlife programs at Moody Air Force Base in Valdosta, Georgia.

Prior to joining the NRI, Abigail worked a variety of seasonal positions. She monitored wildlife and water at a National Wildlife Refuge in Colorado, reared Chinook and steelhead at a hatchery, and conducted snorkel and electrofishing surveys for ESA listed fish in Idaho. Most recently, she worked as a GIS Specialist for the Bureau of Land Management in New Mexico.

Originally from South Carolina, Abigail earned her B.S. from Clemson University in Conservation Biology in 2019. In 2021, she received her Masters of Natural Resources from the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point.

Abigail’s research interests include conservation biology, wildlife and fisheries management, and GIS applications in natural resource management. In her free time, she enjoys hiking with her dog, running, and camping.
