katharine.mccallie@ag.tamu.edu (423) 619-7073As a senior research associate at the Texas A&M Natural Resources Institute, Louise supports the Strategic Conservation and Policy Program as a part of the Military Lands Sustainability and Policy branch.
Louise has extensive experience working with threatened and endangered species management, spending time with lake sturgeon at the Tennessee Aquarium Conservation Institute and gopher tortoises at the Savannah River Ecology Lab. She also worked with the Colorado Natural Heritage Program and the Center for Environmental Management of Military Lands to survey reptile populations on military bases in southern Colorado. Most recently, she managed the natural resources and wildlife programs at Moody Air Force Base in Valdosta, Georgia. Louise also spent time in education and outreach and believes that one of the most important parts of science is being able to discuss the importance of your work with a wide variety of people. Her research interests include conservation and management strategies and the interactions between human disturbances and the health of wildlife populations, and she finds military and other protected lands to be perfect environments for this.
Originally from Chattanooga, Tennessee, she received her Bachelor of Science in biology from Lehigh University in 2015 and her Master of Science from Middle Tennessee State University in 2018. When she’s not working, she enjoys hiking, reading science fiction/fantasy novels, and attempting to birdwatch.
