As a lead for DoD projects, Dayna focuses on proactive, innovative and collaborative approaches that engage regional stakeholders to sustain and enhance the military mission and achieve better conservation outcomes for each community’s environmental resources.
Prior to her position as Project Lead, Dayna managed the City of San Antonio’s Natural Areas for about a year, which included ten (10) parks open to the public and three (3) non-public conservation areas totaling 5,498 acres. She regularly worked with public entities to develop conservation and operation plans for the parks. She was a collaborator for San Antonio aquifer and watershed initiatives. Her greatest accomplishment was educating people about nature and helping them find the best ways to connect with their natural environment. She was a major contributor to the Aim to Float program, a joint effort with Texas Parks and Wildlife and the San Antonio River Authority, to teach underserved kids about the natural environment (watershed health) and outdoor sports including archery, kayaking, and swimming.
Prior to her position as Natural Areas Manager, Dayna worked as a civilian for the United States Air Force for fifteen (15) years in a variety of roles including: design and construction management, funding programming, environmental management systems, National Environmental Policy Act compliance, and environmental conservation (Cultural and Natural Resources Management). While working for Joint Base San Antonio’s Environmental Division, Dayna completed environmental analysis on thousands of projects. She consistently consulted with public, tribal, and regulator stakeholders on behalf of the Air Force and its mission partners to resolve hot button issues and develop win-win opportunities.
Dayna holds a Master of Science in Architecture, Historic Preservation from University of Texas at San Antonio.
During her personal time, Dayna enjoys spending time with her family, friends, and dogs. She especially loves being outdoors, traveling, and exploring. She regularly volunteers with Texas Master Naturalists for environmental restoration and education projects.
