Announcing the 2024 Sentinel Landscape Designation Cycle
The Sentinel Landscapes Partnership is thrilled to launch the 2024 Sentinel Landscape Designation Cycle! Building upon the success of the 11 existing sentinel landscapes, this exciting initiative reflects a decade of valuable lessons learned by the partnership in fostering innovative connections amongst partners in conservation, working lands, climate resilience, and national defense. Apply today to become part of a pioneering community working to strengthen military readiness, conserve natural resources, bolster agricultural and forestry economies, and increase climate change resilience. Information on this exciting opportunity can be found on the partnership’s website.
All parties interested in applying for a designation must submit a completed expression of interest to FCC@sentinellandscapes.org by 11:59 PM in your local time zone on July 27, 2023. In Fall 2023, representatives of the Sentinel Landscapes Federal Coordinating Committee (FCC) will notify applicants regarding whether they have been invited to submit a full proposal. Applicants who are selected will then have at least 60 business days to submit their full proposals. The FCC will announce the final designations in April 2024.
Founded in 2013 by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Department of Defense, and Department of the Interior, the Sentinel Landscapes Partnership is a coalition of federal agencies, state and local governments, and non-governmental organizations that work with willing landowners and land managers to advance sustainable land use practices around military installations and ranges. The partnership achieves its mission by empowering landowners and managers, supporting climate resilience efforts, increasing public access to recreation, promoting compatible land use near military installations, and fostering collaboration among various stakeholders. Sentinel landscape designation leads to a myriad of benefits for local partners, including support to hire a local sentinel landscape coordinator and priority consideration for certain federal funding opportunities.
