Texas Master Naturalists Host Virtual Volunteer Fair

The Texas Master Naturalist program is hosting its fourth Virtual Volunteer Fair on Thursday, May 5^th. This is a great opportunity for NRI’s conservation partners to find support and for citizen scientists with a passion for natural resources to connect with conservation efforts. Many of the volunteers that participate in these events are experts in their ecological fields, but readily enjoy volunteering through these events because they are passionate about the missions of the participating conservation organizations. Volunteering virtually or socially distanced provides an opportunity for naturalists to care for their communities both 1) through the measures taken to maintain the health of their neighbors and 2) the health of the natural environment.

 

Like so many others throughout the pandemic, the Texas Master Naturalist Program had to adapt and create new volunteer opportunities for its network of Master Naturalists while adhering to the necessary safety precautions. At their Virtual Volunteer Fairs, conservation organizations have 10-minute presentation times to share any of their projects that need virtual or socially distanced volunteer support. These can be anything from collecting photos and data of local flora and fauna to reviewing the functionality of websites. At the end of each presentation, volunteers will have time to ask questions and sign up. Master Naturalist volunteers will earn volunteer service hours for attending the fair and participating in any service opportunities.
