As a research associate for the Texas A&M Natural Resource Institute, Abelardo provides geospatial technologies (GPS, GIS, RS), GIS database, and field support to the Wetlands Monitoring and Erosion Control Program at Eglin Air Force Base in Niceville, Florida.

Abelardo is a biologist with bachelor's degrees in Wildlife and Fisheries from Louisiana State University, Ecology and Natural Resources from Universidad Centro Americana and a master of science degree in Conservation Biology and Environmental Studies from the University of Hawaii at Hilo. He has more than 20 years of relevant work experience serving various technical positions in the private sector, government, NGOs and academic institutions of research. For the last ten years, Abelardo has worked in conservation biology, natural resources management, and environmental issues in Central America, Hawaii, and the US mainland.
