Black-Capped Vireo Delisted

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) has officially announced the de-listing of the black-capped vireo (Vireo atricapilla) from protections under the Endangered Species Act. This species was originally listed as endangered in 1987, which prompted extensive conservation efforts in Texas and Oklahoma. Dr. Ashley Long, an avian research scientist formerly with NRI, led some of our most recent black-capped vireo studies. Along with team members Dr. Melanie Colon, Dr. Kathryn Smith-HicksDrew Finn, and Tiffany McFarland, the research done at NRI helped inform the decision making process by contributing sound science.
