Challenges and Opportunities in Stewarding Texas Working Lands Webinar

The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will present the webinar Challenges and Opportunities in Stewarding Texas Working Lands on June 2 as part of its ongoing Rangeland, Wildlife and Fisheries Management, RWFM, Stewardship Series.

The event will run from noon to 1 p.m. Cost is $35, and advance registration by May 30 is required at https://tx.ag/RWFMJuneWeb22. Pay by credit card when registering to immediately receive instructions for accessing the webinar.

Roel Lopez, Ph.D., Texas A&M Natural Resources Institute director, Bryan-College Station, will be the featured speaker.

“Changes in land ownership patterns result in emerging opportunities for private landowners to consider,” Lopez said. “This presentation will describe what the trends are and some of the emerging opportunities, which range from renewable energy to recreational opportunities.”

Land stewardship opportunities

“With over 250,000 plus private owners of farms and ranches in Texas, landowners have a diversity of goals and objectives,” Lopez said. “Taking this into consideration, care should be given toward what factors makes sense for a landowner to implement on their property.”

Texas is comprised of 141 million acres of farms, ranches and forestlands. These private working lands provide many public benefits to include food, fiber, water and recreational opportunities.

“Population demands on rural lands has resulted in increased fragmentation and conversion,” said event co-coordinator Morgan Treadwell, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension rangeland specialist, San Angelo. “A review of stewardship opportunities will be provided by Dr. Lopez for landowners to consider.”
