NRI's Forrest Cobb honored as Distinguished Alumni by Texas A&M–San Antonio
March 2, 2026
The Texas A&M Natural Resources Institute is proud to celebrate Forrest Cobb on being named a 2026 Distinguished Alumni Honoree by Texas A&M University-San Antonio.
A San Antonio native, Forrest earned his Bachelor of Science in biology from the university in 2015 and began his professional journey shortly after with NRI. Over nearly a decade at the Institute, he grew from an intern and student worker to a research assistant supporting conservation science across Texas to a program coordinator, contributing to conservation efforts across the nation.
During his time with NRI, Forrest conducted field research, led community outreach efforts and managed conservation and natural resource projects on both public and private lands. His work supported private land stewardship, military land sustainability and species conservation initiatives, advancing NRI’s mission while strengthening partnerships across agencies and landscapes.
In 2023, Forrest transitioned to a new role as a natural infrastructure coordinator with Environmental Management & Restoration within the U.S. Department of War. In this position, he develops ecosystem management strategies and policies to protect and sustain military installations nationwide, working collaboratively with federal agencies, universities and nongovernmental organizations.
Forrest’s Distinguished Alumni recognition reflects not only his professional accomplishments but his roots in San Antonio and his continued commitment to conservation leadership and service. NRI Director Dr. Roel Lopez introduced Forrest at the award ceremony, a meaningful acknowledgment of the impact he made during his time at the Institute.
Forrest’s trajectory is a testament to the power of applied experience, strong partnerships and mission-driven work. We are grateful for Forrest’s contributions to NRI and proud to see his leadership recognized by his alma mater.
