The Fall 2025 NRI Sourcebook is here

December 11, 2025

Directly from the field, the Fall 2025 edition of the NRI Sourcebook brings together a seasonal, digital collection of recently published peer-reviewed scientific publications, applied research reports, and science-based resources developed by Texas A&M Natural Resources Institute researchers and collaborators. Each volume reflects our commitment to advancing conservation, natural resource management, and private land stewardship through interdisciplinary, applied research.

This season's Sourcebook highlights a wide range of work from documenting the distribution of non-indigenous basket clams in Mexico and examining how river discharge influences freshwater mussel growth, to evaluating how fencing and hunter behavior affect white-tailed deer movement and observation rates. Featured studies also explore habitat use by Texas alligator lizards and translocated gopher tortoises, conservation strategies for endangered species such as ocelots and Houston toads, and how disturbance influences reptile body condition and abundance. Several publications focus on freshwater mussels, including research on thermal tolerance, growth optimization, species diversification, and new methods for estimating age and growth parameters. The volume also includes a reflection on the critical role of private lands in implementing the Endangered Species Act over its first 50 years.

In addition to peer-reviewed publications, the Fall 2025 Sourcebook features applied research reports addressing timely management challenges. These include a 25-year status update on Texas working lands, guidance for managing feral pigs on small-acreage and metropolitan properties, and wildlife monitoring and management strategies related to the emerging threat of New World screwworm.

Designed to be referenced and shared, the NRI Sourcebook supports collaboration among researchers, land managers, partners, and communities working toward resilient landscapes. All publications and reports featured in this volume are accessible through the NRI website under Publications.
